devika v. wickremesinghe (she/they) is a dancer and performer originally from Staten Island, NY.
devika attended Barnard College and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BA in Dance and Art History. At Barnard and during summers at the American Dance Festival and Bates Dance Festival, they explored dance as a container for organizing thought, as a physical discipline, and a mode of seeing the world. After college devika immersed themselves with study at Movement Research , DanceSpace Center, and Westbeth taking class at the Merce Cunningham Studio. Following their studies, devika had the pleasure of performing with NYC based artists including K.J Holmes, Mariangela Lopez' ACCIDENTAL MOVEMENT, Vanessa Justice, and ann and alexx make dances among others.
After moving to Los Angeles devika began a partnership with Samantha Allen creating live performance and film under the organization The Institut IDGAF. In Los Angeles, they became immersed in the community of Pieter Performance Space and have had the honor of working with artists such as Milka Djordjevich, Levi Gonzalez, Maria Hassabi, Jenny MaryTai Liu, and taisha paggett. Alongside Alexx Shilling, devika initiated and produced the long running series Hi, Solo at Pieter Performance Space, a series dedicated to developing the work of emerging L.A choreographers. Under the direction of Gustavo Dudamel, Elkhanah Pulitzer and Laurel Jenkins, devika performed in the 2018 production of Leonard Bernstein’s MASS at Walt Disney Hall and Lincoln Center. devika enjoys cross-country collaboration and has had the honor of working with Annie-B Parson's Big Dance Theater, Lee Sunday Evans, and The Dance Cartel. Under the creative direction of the Ani Taj+Sam Pinkleton and Gypsy Snider (The 7 Fingers) devika was part of the inaugural dancer cast of Virgin Voyages' The Scarlet Lady, performing 7 nights a week for 6 months on a floating stage in the Carribbean. Since 2018 devika has been in collaboration with SHOWTIME GOMA . Recently, they performed in the Dance Constructions as part of the 2023 Simone Forti Retrospective at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. devika currently works with Ajani Brannum (TROUBLE) and is part of the upcoming inaugural season of the PAC Center in March with Annie-B Parson, Tendayi Kuumba, and Donna Uchizono.
